Ready for a change in scenery right inside your home? Hanging new curtains can dramatically alter the ambiance of any room, and pencil pleat curtains from The Sewing House are designed for easy setup with a classic, elegant look. Here’s a straightforward guide to help you hang your pencil pleat curtains.
Getting Started with Your Pencil Pleat Curtains
Our pencil pleat curtains are all set up to make hanging them as easy as pie. Since the draw cords are already pulled and the hooks are in place, you can skip the fuss of preparing the curtains and get straight to hanging them up. Here’s what you need to do:
- Check the Fit: Before you hang the curtains, hold them up to the pole or track to make sure they’re the perfect width. Our curtains are designed to overlap slightly in the middle (about 2.5 cm or 1 inch) to ensure they close completely without any gaps.
- Adjust the Length (If Needed): Our curtains feature three rows of hooks on the back, allowing you to adjust their length. If you’re using a track, you might want the curtain to cover the track completely by placing the hooks in the lower rows. For a pole, you might prefer the hooks in the top row so the curtain hangs beautifully below.
- Attach the Curtains: Attach each hook to a glider or ring on your pole or track. Ensure the spacing between the hooks is even for a neat look. Once the hooks are all attached, gently fan out the curtains to make the pleats look crisp and uniform.
Dressing Your Curtains for a Polished Look
After your curtains are up, they might need a little styling to help them settle into their new home:
- Smooth the Pleats: Start from the top and gently smooth down each pleat to encourage them to fold neatly.
- Tie Them Back: For a truly professional look, take a strip of fabric, ribbon, or cord and loosely tie it around each curtain to hold the pleats in place. Keep them tied like this for at least 48 hours. This helps set the pleats, ensuring your curtains look sharp and tailored.
Care and Maintenance
To keep your curtains looking as fresh as the day you hung them:
- Follow fabric instructions: Always follow the specific instructions on the care label provided with your curtains. Some of our curtains are dry-clean only, whereas others can be cleaned with a gentle hand wash. Get more fabric cleaning tips here.
- Avoid Ironing and Steaming: We recommend against ironing or steaming these curtains to avoid damage. Let any creases fall out naturally over time.
Hanging your new pencil pleat curtains is super straightforward. Just a few tweaks here and there, and you’ll have a room that looks refreshed and refined.
