At The Sewing House, we understand that buying a house for the first time can be an extremely stressful and daunting experience, with so much to consider and new things to learn about owning a home! With that in mind, we thought it would be helpful to create a comprehensive guide that will explain exactly how to measure for your new blinds so that when they arrive, you can pop them straight up with no problems!
- Inside Recess Fitting
Measuring ‘inside the recess’ may sound a bit confusing, however, it sounds a little more complicated than it is! Measuring inside the recess simply means measuring for your blinds to fit inside the frame of your window, as opposed to the blind hanging over the side of the frame.
When ordering with us online, we will just need two sets of measurements from you: a to b for the width and c to d for the height. We would advise measuring for your blinds in 3 different places for both the width (a to b) and the height (c to d), and use the smallest measurement when ordering your blinds.
When measuring for inside the recess, there is no need to make any deductions to your measurements, we will do this for you after you’ve ordered by taking 1cm off of your measurements for wooden and roman blinds, and 3.5cm off of your measurements for roller blinds. This will ensure that when your blinds arrive, they will fit perfectly!
If you would like your blinds made to the exact size that you have entered, please tick the ‘outside recess’ fitting option when placing your order, as we will then make them to the exact sizes you have provided!
IMPORTANT
When measuring for inside the recess, it’s important to watch out for tiles or panelling, as this can obstruct your measurements. This is why it is important to give us the smallest measurement (out of your 3 measurements) for the width, to ensure that the blinds do not catch, and that we can achieve a perfect fit!
- Outside Recess Fitting
Measuring outside the recess is the opposite of measuring inside the recess; it means that you are measuring your blind so that it fits outside of your window frame, blocking out any light shining through the gap between the blind and the window frame.
When measuring for the width of your blinds (e to f), we recommend that you add 7cm to each side of your measurements, which will help to minimize outside light. When measuring for the height of your blinds (g to h), we recommend that you add 10cm above and below your measurements if there are no obstacles in the way, again to minimize any outside light that might sneak in through the gap in your window! The measurement you take here will be the exact size you want the blind to be made to, so we won’t be adding any extra on!
We hope that the contents of this guide have helped you to understand how best to measure up for your new blinds, but if you have any remaining questions, please don’t hesitate to get into contact with our sales team at sales@sewinghouse.co.uk
